Living Your Kingdom Purpose

Acts 13:36 (CSB)

For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed.

Think about this question: What must occur in your life for you to focus on your Kingdom purpose in your generation? It took an intense light from heaven to get the Apostle Paul's attention when he was still Saul. To move from someone who was destroying the church to someone whom God used to write thirteen of the twenty-seven New Testament books.

How do you know if you’re living your Kingdom purpose? Our struggle to live our Kingdom purpose is rooted in our identity and position. As a Jesus follower, your three enemies are the world, the flesh, and the devil. These three are working in concert to do everything they can to distort your view of your identity and position in Christ (Eph. 2:6). Your flesh (or sin nature) is with you 24/7 and is opposed to every aspect of your position in Christ (Gal. 5:17). Why is this true? Because living out your position in Christ requires humility and dying to your flesh, which is your sin nature.

Galatians 2:20 (CSB)

I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

So, here is the good news: When you’re “seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matt. 6:33) and humbling yourself under Jesus’ Kingdom authority, the Kingdom of God will be expanding in your heart. When this happens, you will be living your Kingdom purpose right where you are. Most people believe that in order to live their Kingdom purpose, they must change vocations or locations. But that is not the case. Living your Kingdom purpose is primarily built on the foundation of your position in Christ.

Your Kingdom purpose is more about who you are rather than what you do.

What happened with the Apostle Paul that moved him from destroying to building the Church? Conversion. When he became a Christian and positioned himself in Christ, his heart, soul, and mind changed. He went from a position of opposition to the gospel and the Church, to a position of loving the gospel and the Church.

So, let's come back to my original question. What must occur in your life for you to focus on your Kingdom purpose in your generation? Here is the answer: You must focus on the relational aspect of properly maintaining your position and identity in Christ. This happens by dying to yourself, taking up your cross daily, and following Jesus (Luke 9:23). And remember, dear reader, that your Kingdom purpose is more about who you are than what you do. When you get a firm grasp on who you are in Christ, what you do for Him will naturally fall into place.

Matthew 6:33 (CSB)

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
